A Time to Build Up!
UCC Summer Renovations
“For everything there is a season and a time for every purpose…
…a time to break down and a time to build up!” ~Ecclesiastes 3:1,3
It is time and we need your help!
We have always been very committed to our beautiful UCC facilities and grounds. This summer is a season for the building up and renovation of our corner of Vermillion, as we seek to care for and prepare our space for the future:
Roof and Windows
We have been diligently saving money from grants, our trust fund, and the residual of 2020 campaign. We are set to fix the leaky roof and protect our beautiful windows. That work will begin in June.
Our church elevator is 25 years old. The addition of this elevator in 1993 was an act of faith by our UCC members at that time, who had an eye to the future. This important step allowed them and us to be more accessible, more inclusive, and more caring toward anyone who might need a lift up (or down!) The elevator has, over these 25 years, carried all kinds of precious cargo. It is an important physical symbol of our desire to welcome and live the hospitality of “No Longer Strangers.” Over the last few years, the elevator has begun to show its age. As technology has advanced, our circuit boards have become obsolete and our inner mechanics have worn down. We have had an increasing number of break-downs, including the occasional member stuck between the basement and the first floor (only for a few minutes!!) It is imperative that the elevator gets a complete overhaul now!
For years, we have talked about the need to pave our parking lot. When the late winter thaw and the early spring rains visit Vermillion – our back yard becomes a swamp. Creating a safer and more efficient place to welcome our members has always been on our wish list – we have just not ever had a bid we could afford. This summer all of that has changed. We have an amazingly affordable bid, if we can do the work this summer!!
Here is what we need from you:
Beyond the finances we have on hand, the total cost for these renovations is $120,000 and we need to ask you to help with a financial gift or a short-term pledge. We believe this is very doable but we need your help! One of our team will be contacting you in the weeks ahead. Please consider how you can be a part of our time for BUILDING UP!
