Welcome to the United Church of Christ Vermillion

We come from diverse backgrounds forming an active church family in the Vermillion community, engaged in our own personal ministries, striving to be welcoming, embracing the promise "No Longer Strangers."

To all of the dear friends and members of the Vermillion UCC,

After another week of prayerful and careful consideration, the leadership of the Vermillion UCC has decided to extend our Sabbath time (rest; cease from work) until Easter.  There will be NO public gatherings, classes, or meetings at the church for the remainder of Lent (three weeks).    We continue to make this choice in an effort to be good citizens, to self-quarantine, and to manage the spread of the virus.   This new Lenten discipline will certainly require patience, sacrifice, hope and faith.  Yet this distinct break from old patterns, also offers new possibilities for those who have eyes to see what is possible.  I invite you all to become seeds of love and hope in all kinds of new ways!

Here are some things to know about the next three weeks:

  1. I will be offering a live-streamed prayer service each Sunday morning at 10:30 am and a LAF gathering each Wednesday evening at 5:30 pm.  For those who can’t connect with us at that time, these videos are recorded and available for viewing through both our Facebook page (Facebook.com/UCCVermillion) and Website (http://uccvermillion.org) at the bottom of the homepage under Church Activities
  2. I am working on and open to other online possibilities for spirit and community, so if you have ideas – please let me know!  (Zoom Youth Group, Choir or Bible Study; 60 second sermons; daily moments of collective silence or prayer, etc., etc., etc,!)
  3. I have been making 12 phone calls or texts each day to various members and friends of our church family as a way of both checking in and staying connected.  Next week, our Diaconate Board will join me in this adventure.  I invite you to try on this commitment for yourself – who out there needs to hear from YOU?!
  4. Our UCC staff will be checking in at the UCC office every weekday morning at 9:00 am.  Although the office itself is closed, we will be responding to requests and carefully managing the business of the church.

Please also stay safe and healthy this during these Lenten days. May the God of grace and peace bless all of us through this difficult time.

Our most recent videos are listed below. Please click on medicasts (on top of page) to see all of the videos we have linked to our site.
